Cannock Chase AONB celebrated its 50th Anniversary of being designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty during 2008. Celebratory events included a Community Fete at Cannock Chase Visitor Centre on Saturday 9th August, followed by a Barn Dance in the evening at Cannock Wood & Gentleshaw Village Hall. The winners of our photography competition were also be announced at the Community Fete.
Then on Tuesday 16th September, the day of designation, we held a celebration of the past 50 years and looking forward to the future of the AONB at Shugborough. An earlier plea for 50 50 year olds to join us in celebrating our milestone resulted in nearly 300 people getting in touch! With so many enthusiastic supporters of our AONB coming forward, we looked at how to involve them in caring for the area in the future.
We also held a competition to design a 50th Anniversary logo, the winning design was by Molly Kennedy from Chase Terrace Technology College. It was seen on a wide variety of memorabilia including bags, mugs and even our own AONBeer!
