Access for All
What is it?
Funding is available for physical and digital infrastructure improvements that make Cannock Chase National Landscape more accessible for people of all ages and abilities and from all socio-economic backgrounds.
What does it fund?
Funding is for capital spend only (one-off itemised cost to purchase or invest in a physical item or asset). Examples of capital expenditure include:
- Access infrastructure, buildings, machinery and equipment, for example:
- Disabled toilet facilities
- Replacement of gates
- Additional seating areas
- Improved access to waterways for the mobility-impaired
- Widening and resurfacing of paths for multi-user use
- Purchase of trampers, mobility scooters, electric bikes and storage/charging facilities
- Purchase of specially adapted tools and PPE for volunteers
- Provision of accessible signage and visitor information, physical and digital
- Research and development, defined as: “Creative work undertaken on a systematic basis to increase the stock of knowledge, and use of this stock of knowledge for the purpose of discovering or developing new products, including improved versions or qualities of existing products, or discovering new or more efficient processes of production”.
- Creation of a new or improvement of an existing piece of access infrastructure, such as, building a toilet or fitting a new accessible gate or adapting a minibus or visitor centre.
Who can apply?
Funding is available to landowners, property owners, organisations and community groups who wish to improve public accessibility to Cannock Chase National Landscape.
Projects on land outside the National Landscape boundary up to approximately one kilometre can be supported where a benefit to the designated area or the objectives of the National Landscape can be demonstrated.
You can check if your land is within the boundaries of the National Landscape on the MAGIC mapping website. Choose the Map Layers tab on the top left, then follow these steps:
- select ‘Magic’ and in each case, click the arrow on the left to open the menu.
- select Designations (open the menu)
- select Land-Based Designations
- select Statutory
- select Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (England) and National Parks (England) and zoom in to, or search for ‘Cannock’ within the search bar at the top of the page.
What are the funding requirements?
No matched funding is required. Approved projects will be expected to secure 3 quotations for any work, and to sign a grant agreement and comply with Staffordshire County Council terms and conditions.
Any accessibility infrastructure change or intervention should be accessible for all users, and, where possible to do so, should avoid the requirement of extra tools to use (for example, gates locked with RADAR keys) and consider safety, value for money and sustainability.
