Species Recovery
The National Landscape Team is collaborating with partner organisations and land owners to support the recovery of 10 Champion Species that call the National Landscape home.
Cannock Chase is nationally and locally important for a range of wildlife, including a number of priority species of conservation concern.
Ten Champion species have been selected to focus our conservation efforts and help drive nature recovery on Cannock Chase. Conservation actions for these species will be delivered through individual Species Action Plans:
- Small pearl-bordered fritillary butterfly
- Adder
- Nightjar
- Solitary wasp species of bare ground (TBC)
- Ancient oak trees
- White-clawed crayfish
- Otter
- Common redstart
- Welsh Clearwing
- Brown hare
The Champion species are all species of conservation concern, characteristic / representative of an important habitat on the Chase, flagship (charismatic or popular), actionable, recordable and an indicator of good quality habitat and environmental changes. Some of the species are vulnerable to persecution and crimes against wildlife.
