30by30
What is it?
Funding is available for activities which will enable more areas of land within Cannock Chase National Landscape to count towards the Government’s commitment for 30% of land in England to be protected for nature by 2030 (30by30).
What does it fund?
Funding is available for activities which can be considered capital expenditure and should enable additional areas in Protected Landscapes to make demonstrable progress towards meeting the published 30by30 criteria:
Purpose
The purposes or management objectives for this area must ensure the delivery of in-situ conservation outcomes.
Protection
The conservation of this area must be secured for at least 20 years, through legal or other effective means.
Management
The area’s governance or ownership must have the ability to implement reasonable management actions to achieve in-situ conservation outcomes.
Management
There must be a management plan or similar that is designed to deliver in-situ conservation outcomes.
Management
Management measures are being implemented, with appropriate monitoring, evaluation and learning in place to assess progress and inform future management.
Management
The area is achieving, or making progress towards, in-situ conservation outcomes, with reasonable confidence that these outcomes will be achieved.
Who can apply?
Funding is available to landowners/managers who wish to their land for nature within the Cannock Chase National Landscape.
Projects on land outside the National Landscape boundary up to approximately one kilometre may be supported where a benefit to the designated area or the objectives of the National Landscape can be demonstrated.
You can check if your land is within the boundaries of the National Landscape on the MAGIC mapping website. Choose the Map Layers tab on the top left, then follow these steps:
- select ‘Magic’ and in each case, click the arrow on the left to open the menu.
- select Designations (open the menu)
- select Land-Based Designations
- select Statutory
- select Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (England) and National Parks (England) and zoom in to, or search for ‘Cannock’ within the search bar at the top of the page.
What are the funding requirements?
No matched funding is required. Approved projects will be expected to secure 3 quotations for any work, and to sign a grant agreement and comply with Staffordshire County Council terms and conditions.
The relevant landowner/manager should commit to the area in the proposal being formally recognised as a 30by30 Area when the Defra’s 30by30 Assessment and Reporting Tool formally launches.
